Josh works very hard to extend the learning in our academic classrooms to meaningful applications outside of the classroom (Shark Tank). He challenges our students with collaborative project work where they end up presenting to unfamiliar audiences. He encourages creativity in the work in his classroom. In the collaborative work (group or partners) he lays down clear expectations for our students to work within. In and out of the classroom he supports and inspires our students as a role model in sports and Legacy of Lions.
o Nari said, "He is good at explaining things and enforces rules when we work with others. He makes learning fun!"
o Cam said, "Mr. Bovill is always fun, energetic, and positive! His attitude makes me want to learn more. Sometimes the work is challenging but we are encouraged to ask for help and he provides it."
o Grace said, "Mr. Bovill makes class fun with activities. He is always positive and happy."
These are just some of the reasons why I nominate Josh Bovill for Teacher of the year!
Finally, Josh's enthusiasm and love of learning and innovation spills into his fellow teachers' classrooms. He often visits or wanders in to our classrooms to ask what we are doing, peer around the room at our posters, talk to us about what we are reading or discussing so he can think about incorporating the ideas into his classroom in true inter-disciplinary form. Thank you Josh for preparing our students to be 21st Century Learners!!!
He has been very influential here at York Middle School. He serves as the co-athletic director, head football coach (winning a championship), elective department head, and teacher here at YMS. He is also mentor to several young males here and finds the time to connect with students, whether it’s checking on his players in class, or going to the gym during his planning to play dodgeball with the students. He has also given several students opportunities to discover and connect with business leaders and community members. He has displayed this through his real-world projects, class sponsorship projects, and Panther’s field trips. In addition, Joshua serves as part of the York Literary Festival by orchestrating and hosting the open-mic event. He also oversees the performing arts club here at school, giving students an outlet for expression. If a teacher needs a helping hand or pick-me-up, Joshua is the person for the job. He has a very positive attitude and lives like every day is “Friday.” He is always willing to be a helping hand.
